About Prof. C.P.K. Basalirwa

C.P.K. Basalirwa will be part of the Research Component 1 team that will undertake building Numerical Weather Prediction Models for Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan as well as the East African Region to improve weather forecasts.
Prof. Basalirwa is a Professor of Climatology in the Department of Meteorology, Makerere University. He has a PhD in Meteorology from University of Nairobi, Kenya, a Master of Science in Hydrology from University College of Galway, University of Ireland, Ireland, and a Masters in Meteorology from University of Nairobi, Kenya.
He has written several papers that have been published in reputable scientific journals. Prof. Basalirwa is also a team leader of climate change experts’ advisors to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Rockefeller Foundation Funded Project incorporating Climate change information in the syllabi of the college since 2011. He has served as Principal Investigator on the project – Assessing the impacts of climate change and variability on water resources in Uganda. START project co-sponsored by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP), World Research Program (WCRP), and International Dimensions program on global environmental change (IHDP), Kampala.
He has also served as a consultant on climatology and hydrology impacts on Bugala Island, Kalangala district palm oil project. In addition, he previously served as associate fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society of the United Kingdom and a lead author, IPCC-Third Assessment Report (TAR) chapter 10 “Africa”, IPCC, Secretariat, Geneva, Switzerland.
